What mode were you playing and did you keep using the equipment for the rest of the game?
What level were you characters at and did you promote your characters as well?
Just curious
I was playing the hard mode, and my characters were in their late 30's when fighting Djinn (except Hirado who was in a lower level). All except Hirado were alredy promoted (Marine as Shiva, Benoit as Body Master, and Karine as Bounty Hunter), and Marine and Benoit were trained in the Strength Guild. Djinn is vulnerable to sleep condition (Hirado's White Orb spell can easily make him fall asleep), but what's more important, he can be stunned or paralyzed as well (Karine and Hirado have spells which inflict these conditions). He counters neither physical attacks, nor spells, so he's totally harmless, if he's stunned or paralyzed. His sidekicks can be easily stunned, so they're quite harmless as well.
The ancient weapons, especially the Ancient Rifle, are useful while fighting the Ant King who counters spells and who is physically resistant enough to practically nullify atacks with any weapon except Morning Star, Saint Sword and the ancient assault weapons.

I've found only one Ancient Rifle in the secret room, the only guns I found outside the secret rooms were Ancient Pistol and Laser Cannon. Maybe I've overlooked some areas of the Ancient Shrine.
