Free piece of armor?

I've just arrived in the Eastern Lands, been to the Mind Guild , etc. According to the walkthrough, someone named Thomas would give me a piece of armor, if I were playing in Normal or Hard mode, which I am. I haven't found anyone named Thomas, nor has anyone offered me a piece of armor.
This game is quickly becoming more aggravating than fun. . .

Thomas is in Pinerock. You have to catch 10 green snakes and take them to him and he will make the armor for you.

It seems walkthroughs are not very accurate, maybe you should stick to this board instead and ask your questions here...

The armour he gives you is great too, definitly worth buying the special gloves and chasing snakes.
