My advices:
1. Before you confront him, do all other quests, find all secret rooms and beat every animal king.
2. Marine can really help with Jeanne.
3. Karine's Disintegration spell might help if you have the Swamp something...
4. Persistence will get you through.

That's true too. I forgot that. Try not to use spells against him with Characters like Benoit.

I beat him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My strategy was like this:
Marine summoned Jeanne,Benoit used iron hand to stun him(and then I needed to revive him),Karine just atack(I equiped her with the best weapon I had for her,Hirodo used that spell that paralyze and then atack)
Round 2:Marine double slap until it's over and then atack,Benoit halve the defense,the rest the same
Round 3:Marine the same,Benoit halves the atack ,the rest the same
Round 3:All the same,but at this time it wasn't stunned anymore so I used Iron hand again
All the other rounds:Just atack like an animal and it should go down,trough it will take some time.
This is just how I did it,the others may have another strategy trough

I thought you couldn't halve his def and attack with Benoit... Hmm... and Hirado's spell that inflicts slow can work too...

You can,but take some tries(it killed me a lot before I could halve his atack and save benoit ),and I didn't tried to slow it

There are only 2 new kings and they're easier than the ant king, trust me.

Lol,an ant king is more powerful then an aligator king
The hard mode really is harder then normal(I needed to use phials and it is more survival then anything else )

I'm at scarlet river and i'm still not used,trough I spend my time to level up(in normal mode I went trough without leveling up too much )I can't wait to finish the whole hard game entirely and start the second part,hope you will guide me trough that like you did with this one )
PS:I don't want to see how the ant king will beif it was hard on normal mode )

where is the best place to level up before going to the rocky path?

Well to be honest I never need to level up because I play with invisible monsters on 10 step encounter rate. Even 0 is a bit too much. Are you visible or invisible? But normally the best place to level up would be the last dungeon you visit aka. Scarlet River.
