Importing from Millenium 1

Have I done something incorrectly? When I imported my last game from Millenium 1, I lost a lot of money and levels gained by the characters... I still have all the items that I picked up along the way. Insight?

You start out with your equipment from MM1, 1000 gold and each character at level 20. The gold doesn't transfer from MM1.
