There is one door or opening where something growls(Ricks dream) and I have tried every way to get in and can't. Otherwise the only areas left are the ones blocked by black balls. What am I missing?

Did you check the crypts? Check the top floor and beat the purple baddies!

Is it behind the locked gate? don't have a key. what key is needed?

Go to crypt 3 all the way to the end, ignore the flames in the corridors if they're too hard! You'll get a key there with which you'll open the gate in crypt 6. Then from 6 you get the key to that one!
