1) he's so tiny (lol)
2) he's so fast my eyes couldn't catch him
3) he's a creature of the night, dark as the night himself and hence can't be seen in darkness .....

well if 3 was correct, you could still see him at daylight +::whistle

Not necessarily. Maybe he can't bear daylight and has to hide away during days. And to make this theory work he also can't bear the light of fire or magical light or ANY kind of light!
