i've seen severral benches and one place i'm told to sit for a show. how do i do that ?

It's the secret room that the ghost takes you too instead of the swamp. The guy in there tells you to sit down and enjoy the show.

ah yes, well he just offers so to admire the inside of the (gorgeous) shrine.... nothing is supposed to happen
