DAY #5 - BACK IN 2004

A look behind, we are in 2004, X-mas 2004.
The long-awaited Laxius Power 3, conclusion of the first trilogy, is finally out.
Here are a few of the its gorgeous artworks, made by Anon D!

Nash, the dreaded Drukku Druk (don't you dare calling him dragon!)

Image

Sandy, the lovely mother of 2

Image

Zoo, the Half-Demon

Image

Luba, the most talented warrior/wizardress of Aglae-Terra

Image

And last but not least, Rosa, as physically weak as she is magically deadly!

Since we are talking Laxius Power 3, my favorite game right after Laxius Force 3, I'll add a bit of my own sentiment.

I know that many people here have played all Laxius Power games, but the others might wonder why LP3 is so famous amongst Laxius fans and why it is often mentioned when it comes to "best Aldorlea game" topic.
To put things a bit into perspective - in 2004/2005, there were no commercial RPG Maker games (at least as far as I know), i.e. only freeware games. Most of these games were quite short (max. 10 hours), usually with interesting story and/or few good ideas (minigames and so on...). Some of them were decent, but in general they were still only "good freeware games".
LP3 was a different story - thrilling plot with many twists, huge maps (sometimes it was really hard to go through), many (and memorable) characters (I don't remember it exactly, but I believe that there were around 40 characters, i.e. similar number to LF3), 100+ quests, tons of skill, spells, relics and artifacts, challenging and fun fights, I could just go on and on. The length of LP3 was spectacular, too. I don't remember the exact number, because it was only shown at the end of the game, not anytime as in LF, but I do remember that I had over 10000 fights with Random at the end of LP3 (fights, not killed enemies as in LF - killing five enemies with one spell still meant only one fight...!), so I'm pretty sure it must be something like 100+ hours.
It also had custom artworks and graphics and original (and very good) music - I still remember Mosquito Swamp and my favorite was Winterstorm and Hall of Madness - that was an unforgettable experience. Winterstorm was used again in Sylia (Mt. Horus) and in Ella's Hope, too, I believe, and some other tracks were used in Dreamscape, btw.
Actually, quite a few things we know from other Aldorlea games were used in LP3 for the first time - Questbook in its current form, guilds, party splitting (that's quite an unique feature, I would dare to say - I cannot remember any other RPG Maker game - or any other current PC RPG game - that would use it), crafting, airplane, "challenge tower" (I mean tower where you go through different levels and fight enemies, such as Legendra Tower in LF3).

If I shall sum my impressions from LP3 back then in 2005, I must say that I was shocked! I know that impression from any game depends a lot on previous gaming experience, but I've never played games like Phantasy Star or Chrono Trigger, so I cannot really compare. For me, most of the things LP3 brought were new. The first RPG I've played (and the game that dragged me into RPG genre) was Fallout 2, in 2004 my favorite commercial games were KOTOR and Gothic 2 (they weren't released in 2004 but they were my favorites at that time). I already considered LP1 and LP2 to be "in the same league" with these two games (That's quite an archievment for a freeware games, don't you think?) and LP3, well, LP3 simply owned them all! I will probably never quite understand how a freeware game can be that good, but it just is. Never before I've played such a complex game with such a story. LP3 set the bar for me - what I like, what I expect from a game and how immersive a game can be for me.
LF3 surpassed LP3 in my eyes, but it's the only game so far. And no matter how good LF3 is, I have many more games to compare it to now. Thus I'm pretty sure that I will probably never experience the feelings of shock and amazement - as when playing LP3 for the first time - with another game. That's why I will always remember LP3 as something special.

And I want to say one more thing - I'm happy you went commercial with LF, Indi. +::wizard Time has shown it was a good decision because otherwise you wouldn't create all the great games. +::YAY And I'm really looking forward to (and also a bit fear of) the moment when LS will be released and the story of Random and his friends will be completed.

P.s. I almost forgot - the artworks from LP3 are awesome, I've always loved them. +::Thumbup

All these fanarts are so gogeous and it makes me play the Laxius Power games again sooooo bad. But as they're too big, I'm too lazy to play big games for now. +::biggrin Now, who's the old man in the second pic? That drawing is awesome. ^^

this picture shows the cover of wendala's own story "sanguine lady". it's not entirely laxius but since it's also a drawing of wendala, it deserves its place here. :)

And the fifth place, the same one that is used in the picture of 10 years is also a cover from one of your books? :) It also appears as a photography in Laxius Power 3. ;)

This one XD By the way, the background of the 10 Years pictures, that place is a location of a Laxius Power game or just a cool background without name? +::biggrin
