...which is what I am. But what triggers this skill? Do I have to see somebody before I can begin clicking on plants, or what? Any help appreciated.

it is wonderful skill. u have to buy empty phile for boanist. buy evrey time 99. now you can click on everything that look like flower or bush and u get a L O T of supply. especially in the way to the temple where u found luby...and even stonelike flowers or the straw figures..
