Quest #2

Finally getting the chance to play the game!

I'm ready to board the ship and leave Peatfall, but I haven't found anything to solve quest #2, the missing family. There just doesn't seem to be anything I can do. Have I missed something or is that quest to be solved only later in the game?

You can't solve that one until very late in the game.
So assuming you've done everything (including the couple of optional bosses), you can get aboard.

I hesitated moving on, not knowing if I could eventually solve it. I hate missing something! (Perfectionism ...)
Yes, I did kill a bunch of bosses. I would think I got them all. The dungeons are not that big, so I assume I found everything. (Even came back for mommy monster in that one cave, hehe.)
And I killed that sea monster instead of repelling it with the stinky plant.

I killed it as well. That was a great piece of equipment to get for doing that. And the sword and staff from the other boss were a great help in the next bit.

Which are you playing out of the bard/acrobat and warrior/guardian choices?

Yes those weapons are really nice, especially because the sword can stun.
I chose Bard - which I'm glad about because Dathan does all the healing - I haven't used a single item so far.
And Guardian for Eva. But I keep boosting her Attack with points so she really is a good fighter.

I went with Bard as well for the first time, though I chose Warrior for Eva, as I wanted a decent fighter. I thought that the combination of Bard an Guardian would leave me at a disadvantage.
I've played through again with Acrobat and Guardian. A very different experience as you need different strategies.

I liked both, I'd be hard pushed to say which combination was my favourite.

No, it's no disadvantage. She's a decent fighter anyway, but I have to say, I don't really use her Guardian spells all that much, so think I'd go with Warrior for her next time.
As for Dathan - his healing abilities are invaluable. The only thing that irks me is that I can't get reach those chests. I assume there are some nice pieces of equipment in some.

Okay, this is the only thing I didn't solve. Hmpf!
I have no idea what would have been needed to finish this quest!
Littlebro, you said I can't solve it till very late in the game. Can I still solve it before moving on to the Divide? If so I'll go look again, but if not, please tell me what I've missed!

Hmmmmmmmmm, gonna go look again. I really thought I've been everywhere. Especially since I actually figugured the solution might be there .... it's ghosts, after all.

Edit - okay, I've definitely been to every single map, but I just can't find what I've missed.
Is that quest linked to anything? Although I have finished everything else, so I really don't know.

If you have the quest in your Quest Journal, then it is definitely possible to complete it.

Spoiler: show

At the very beginning of The Divide, go east to map #1.
Walk up that map more or less central.
As you approach the top, you should see a figure fade in.
Speak to the man, it is Portran.
Having heard his story, decide to help him or not.

Exit back to The Entry and now take the lower path on the east to map #2.
Go round to the golden worm dragon - Retribution.
Speak to it and then defeat it.
Return to Portran and speak to him again.

Okay, I got it now. That was tricky. I've been there more than once, I just didn't step on the right spots, as it seems.

I think I got it straight off because I was exploring all round there looking for Secret Rooms.

So did I and I did find the secret room there. But I must have walked past that cliff a bit too low every time I did (and I did several times).
