You can buy stat increase books? Where? I didn't read that in the strategy guide. 200,000 coins at the game end would have been spent on every stat book I could afford.

The Crossroads. Granted you got to play the games to earn GP, and the games cost coins. So it's not a direct conversion.

Though now that this is discussed maybe next game I should add an option to just directly buy them for coins in the last town or something (adds to list of things to consider for the next game).

I used my GP to buy combination bracelets instead. Just another option for you to consider on a replay. The advantage of the bracelets is the multiple buffs they give. Truly excellent. Also, they can be swapped around and aren't affected by the respec thing.

ummm ... you forgot Elmwood - you can buy books with DB directly from a merchant in Elmwood in the last chapter - after you go back from Clearwind . That's how I spent my money so fast on the books - especially after having so much money from that "special slime "

Yeah, I know what you mean. He was a snail in comparison.
But for the combination bracelet, I was thinking more of how to use GP, rather than DB. Those books in The Pit were very useful, to say the least.

But yes, there are books you can buy in Elmwood once you get to Clearwind, 10,000 each.

i played the demo then bought the game but it wouldn't load the demo i tried copying and pasting as you recommended to another player but didn't know what i was doing and now i lost the demo completely is there some other way than starting all over

You can copy this save file into the same directory as the full version of the game:

It will overwrite whatever you have in slot 3.

Note this save file is right as you are about to exit the Pit. You'll also need to redo that battle at the end.

How do I access the Old Mansion in Ch 9? I'm about to enter "Central Elmwood," but I want to find that formerly mage-warded door mentioned in the guide. Do I have to go through the Tower of Storms?

To get there, head into the Pit from the Elmwood Forest, then down into Old Elmwood. Head from there to the Eastern side of Old Elmwood, and climb the rope. That will put you in the forest outside the old mansion.

You'll have to wait until the events in Elmwood are done first in Chapter 9, unless you backtrack through the Earth Caves to the Pit first.
