Working on Orbs and Walkthrough
Freedom Orbs
Walkthrough Ctrl-F for F1. = 18, Ctrl-F F2. = 4, finding 22/25. There are 2 maps (#76 and #118) which have F1 but no accompanying legend, so that brings to 24. Map #51 (Prejuvia) has site #3 (Upper House 1) marked with an F1. The legend reads : 3. Upper House 1. A man here wants a book called the Law of Allos which he will trade for a Freedom Orb and 5 Miracle Holy Plants. BUT under LOCKED, it says L1. Locked by game progress. You need to find the Law of Allos in the Vordenstople Palace near the end of the game. He’ll give you a Liberator Orb and 5 Holy Miracle Plants. I don't have a saved game that close to the end where I can easily verify whether it's the Freedom or it's the Liberator Orb he gives you.

Working on finding the Liberator Orbs in the walkthrough now. Will edit this post when I finish.

Just thought if you were updating the walkthrough anyway, it would be nice if all the paradox miasmas and orbs could be found with a simple Ctrl-f for M1. D1. F1. L1. P1.

Yeah, this is one of those 'math geniuses' puzzles. :) So, each row has a sign that will give you 4 numbers, numbered from top to bottom. Use the guide to determine the correct answer, then look at the sign to see which path you should take (1-4, again numbered top to bottom.)

South of Saulek. It looks like a tan igloo on the map. You need Mountainwalk which is why you couldn't go there earlier.

Sorry for the slow replies, I was out of town with poor cell service the last couple days, but I'm back now and can respond quickly again.

For the boulder puzzle, the numbers are listed beside each switch or button (in the guide, there's a picture of 2 switches and 2 buttons marked with 4 orange numbers under the Abandoned Cave map) and you have to push the numbers in the order shown here. They have to be pushed in this order from the start, so if you messed up while doing the order, you'd have to leave the cave and come back. I hope this clears it up. Sorry for the slow reply.

RAndrews wrote:I was enjoying the game, but have now given up :( The crystals puzzle in Vordenstople palace study simply has me beaten. I'm not after instructions to do it - I've got those - I simply can't manage it, even in easy mode :(

This is a real shame as I hate to leave a game unfinished, but I apparently don't have the manual dexterity to achieve this one. I don't like this sort of puzzle in these games - it's not what I want to play.

I think the puzzle is more timing, spacing and strategy. As Lady JJ pointed out, I made an error in my guide for the last crystal puzzle part which I'm going to fix today and reupload. If you really don't want to/can't do it, I can take your save file and get you past it if you want. It wouldn't take me too long to do if you do still want to see the ending. It would be a shame to leave it unfinished because of this one puzzle.

There's a treasure chest on the final screen that is marked F1 in the guide. What the guide doesn't tell you is that there may be another treasure in that chest as well, and this ring is going to be invaluable if you still need to tie up some loose ends before the final battle (e.g. finding all the paradox miasmas, orbs, etc.) I think this find is dependent upon having recruited a certain optional player, though. (If you have all 12 players, then you'll be all set.)

Lady JJ wrote:Matt, if you are redoing the guide anyway, you might want to look at the legends for M1. Ctrl-F only finds 81 (and 2 are in the descriptive text, not the legend, so they don't count). There are actually 85 that should be listed in the legend. An example of the legend is M1. Paradox Miasma in the broken barrel.
The 5 maps that are missing the M1. legends are maps #76, #115, #125, #142, #146, #161.

Going to check on Liberator and Freedom orbs as I only have 24 Liberator Orbs and 23 Freedom orbs (and 95 paradox miasmas, so definitely missed a few of those, too). I can see a Freedom orb on the last screen, map #189, but I can't find a way to reach that bridge. Still, I missed 1 Liberator and 1 Freedom. Going back to tie up loose ends.

I did finish the game. Definitely one of the most esoteric games I've ever played. I thought, for the most part, the ending provided a nice finish. Again, I'll restate, I don't think the ordinary person (those of us who are non-math geniuses) would have completed some of those puzzles without a guide.
Spoiler: show
I felt a little less than satisfied with the explanation of the Flower Man. In my mind, he was the 'good god,' the antithesis of Bazael, but I would have liked to have seen that final meeting between Chrysal and his maker.

Thank you for being so readily available. It was a pleasure to play this game. Looking forward to your next game. :)

Edit: The treasure chest containing a freedom orb on the final screen, map #189, can be accessed by pressing the action key at the pipe structure left of the entrance to the merchant cave.

Thanks so much for pointing all this out. I saw your updated latest post about it as well. I think what I can do is list, for example, the Paradox Miamas in the legend as Mx-01, Mx-02, etc up to 99, so that way Ctrl F 'Mx-' will find the Miamas/Orbs. I only thought of searching M1, M2, etc when trying to help someone find an Orb they missed on the way, but Mx should get around the 1, 2, etc issue. I'll mention the search hint in the guide near the top as well. My update today will be to fix the issue with the crystal puzzle since that's a big error and I'll fix up the quality of life fixes for the Miasmas/Orbs today/tomorrow. As for right now, the map pictures are more correct than the legends, but I'll fix that.

Did you get the Orb on the last map? You have to climb down a pipe to get over there. Just interact with it and it will ask if you want to climb down.
EDIT: I see your edit now

As for the math puzzles in the Hovia Mansion, I figured even if someone didn't know the math solution, it ends up being a bit of a multiple choice situation anyway and you can figure it out. Overall I know the puzzles are pretty hard hopefully some of my tweaks help out with that.

As for Flower Man, I guess I have a bunch to say about him. Maybe it wasn't all clear in the story, but I can say my thoughts on it. Flower Man was probably one of the more interesting characters.

Spoiler: show
Flower Man throughout the game was meant to be a bad guy. He was basically one of Vordenstein's henchmen, along with the likes of Pid, Tarlv (the Advisor), Tolvic (the monster from Hovia Prison), etc. The henchmen were basically all superhuman in some way, and being evil, prideful and ambitious, all wanted to outdo and thought they were all better than the others. Flower Man thought your party following this path was a joke and wanted your party to be like him. However, as more things were shown to be true and the power you had was too strong, he was unsure if he was correct on his choices. However, even with confronting the truth, would he accept it? His last dialogue to your party was less mocking and more pensive, which is what Krantz picked up on. I liked the last scene with him because Chrysal meeting with him couldn't tell Flower Man anything he didn't already know, but caring enough to show up there alone would maybe say enough. Also, Flower Man was in the ice cave where the previous king of Prejuvia went to become an ascetic and was at the bookshelf there. So it ends ambiguously, but hopeful.

There was an antithesis to Bazael, but he is only hinted at. The one that had the power behind the Orbs and directed the prophecy that Vordenstein thought he could overcome by pure power. Bazael wasn't happy he sent your party of humans to defeat him instead of showing up himself.

I'm happy you enjoyed the game even if the puzzles were tough. Thanks for all your comments :) It's been helpful.
