Gate Behind Skull Portrait in Mansion

I have spent the past 2 hours exploring what I perceive to be EVERY possible way to get the gate open that is just directly past the skull portrait, in a room called "???", in the mansion in witch woods.

I have re-switched ever lever, retraced every step, and I am at my wit's end.

How do I open this gate? Please,d on't be vague...

The key that opens that gate is called Lucrecias key.

To get the key follow these instructions...


To find the crack on the wall leading to spider room and key, go through middle mansion door (green door). At the first junction, turn right. At the end is a switch and on the wall above it is a crack on the wall. Click on this to enter the area with spiders.

Work your way through the maze of rooms until you come to one called Dead End where you'll find Lucrecias key.
