The Nahanaha needle is a powerful sword for that point in the game. It's AT value does wane off towards the end of the game though. The main staying feature it has is that it is the only way to inflict 'lichea', the strongest form of poison in the game. I recall at least one of the tougher bosses in LF2 was immune to every kind of poison but lichea, and the effect just demolished them. It also has a bit more cross-class compatibility than others; that is to say, characters who don't use swords as a primary weapon type might still be able to use the Nahanaha Needle. For a couple LF2 characters, it was their best weapon for awhile into the game.
That's about it. It's certainly not required, or really recommended; unless you're going for absolute 100% completion. That's partially why it's in a spoiler tag, because it's a bit of an 'aside' that not everyone is going to want to take the time to get.

One thing though; you don't need to inflict 7000 damage on the first turn. You just need to make sure you deal less than ~7000 damage. If you deal 7200 damage for example, it will cause it to transform, and you lose your chance to get the sword.
So damage it up to about ~7000 Hp worth in as many combat rounds as it takes, then boost Random with everything you have including legend slayer, and just use Fury. If that doesn't work there's not much else you can do. Even if it does work, the item drop rate has got to be less than 20%, so you'll likely have to do it several times before you get the sword.
